I did something I rarely do when I’m thirfting: spent my entire visit in the activewear section. And I enjoyed it?!
As someone who is drawn to funky and quirky finds, I typically find this section to be the least exciting department. However, after a visit to the Goodwill in Brunswick, I found that thrift shopping for athleisure can indeed be a fun and rewarding experience, allowing you to find stylish and comfortable activewear at affordable prices. Here are some things that helped make my experience an effective and enjoyable one:
Focus on What You Need: Before heading to the thrift store, have a clear idea of the athleisure items you need or want. This could include leggings, yoga pants, sports bras, tank tops, hoodies, or even athletic shoes. That way you can skip over the items you don’t need and focus your time on the items on your list. I was looking specifically for crewneck sweatshirts and pants so I skipped the t-shirts to save time.
Take Your Time: I never skip the houseware section, but decided to dedicate my entire visit to browsing the activewear section so I can really focus on what I was looking for. I didn’t feel rushed or distracted!
Check Quality: Look for durable materials like nylon, polyester, or spandex blends that are commonly used in activewear. Check for any signs of wear, such as pilling, stretching, or loose seams.
Check for Brand Names: Many thrift stores carry branded athleisure items at a fraction of their original price. Keep an eye out for popular brands like Nike, Adidas, Lululemon, Under Armour, or Puma, as they often produce high-quality activewear.
Thrift the Athleisure Trends: Not sure which trends to look for when you’re thirfting? Add these to your thrift wish list:
- Crewneck Sweatshirts
- High Waisted Leggings / Pants
- Tapered Leggings / Pants
- Wide Leg / High Waist Track Pants
- Quarter Zip Sweatshirts
- Sets in neutral or bright colors
- Nostalgic styles (oversized sweatshirts, track pants, retro styles, college logos)
Happy thrifting!
