I was looking for a fun and affordable way to provide entertainment at my toddler’s summer birthday party and decided to transform our truck into our very own party ice cream truck. It was an absolute hit among children and adults and it cost less than $50. Here’s how:
Choose Your Vehicle
My husband happens to have a truck so it worked out perfectly. However, you could use a van, a small trailer, or even a push cart.
Plan the Design
We named ours Big Worm’s Ice Cream truck as a nod to one of my husband’s favorite movies. You could spend as much or as little time as you want decorating your vehicle. We kept it pretty simple with balloons tied to the doors and a marker board for a sign.
Buy Your Materials
Now for the fun part! Here’s what you’ll need:
- A roll of magnet tape
- Scissors
- Zip Lock Bags – Freezer Size
- Cooler
- Ice
- A selection of kid-favorite ice cream
Create the Setup
- Fill your cooler with ice
- Empty the ice cream packages and separate each type in a large zip lock bag, place them in the cooler
- Cut the boxes into two sections: one to create a magnet for the vehicle, the other to place inside the zip lock bag so you can identify the type of ice cream in each bag
- Place a small strip of adhesive to the back of the cut out for the vehicle
- Stick it on the vehicle with the magnet
- Once you run out of a specific kind of ice cream, simply remove the magnet from your vehicle.
Music
Use your car’s radio or use a portable speaker to play classic ice cream truck music.
Creating your own DIY party ice cream truck is a fantastic way to make any event memorable. With a bit of creativity and planning, you can bring sweet joy to your friends, family, or community.
