Good Style Fashion Show 2014

I don’t even know where to begin with this recap of the 2014 Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show! It was such a thrill to be a part of this fantastic event for the third year in a row. Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, Inc. holds an annual fundraiser where local bloggers are invited to showcase a runway collection under $125 using thrifted items. My collection was titled Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants, inspired by Stevie Wonder’s album. I styled 10 looks well under the budget using plants and flowers as my guide for every outfit. The key was to style a garden-like collection without the use of floral print.

The Outfits: Journey Through the Secret Life of Plans

I found this church suit and saw the potential in it instantly. I gave it a younger look by pairing it with a cropped top for Rachael

I used the top of the suit for Amanda’s outfit. The puff sleeves made me a little nervous at first but I just couldn’t resist the peplum style jacket.
I thrifted this dress a while ago. It’s a formal dress from the 80s but it kind of has a boho feel to it. I thought it fit perfectly with the peach and white part of the collection.
I couldn’t get enough of green and pink for this collection! I started with pink thrifted H&M pants and color blocked with a loose green blazer.

More color blocking maternity style. Katie found this shirt for me at Goodwill in Cleveland for $1!
This is actually an old school Avon bathing suit cover up that served as the perfect maternity makeshift maxi dress! I added a red belt from a top and a denim vest.

Rima almost didn’t wear this dress. I kept going back to look at her picture at the fitting and loved how this dress fit her perfectly and hugged her curves and knew it was made for her. How amazing is the square collar? And the buttons in the back?

Simple and radiant! Sahar really did look like a rose. This dress was $5.

Katie looks beautiful in green, I added a pop of pink with a flower brooch and kitten heels.
And for the grand finale I found a stunning vintage, orange dress that I paired with a pair of plant green pumps.

The Music
I made an upbeat mix of Nothin’ on You by B.O.B,  Fantasy by Mariah Carey, and I’m Comin’ Out by Diana Ross.

Hair & Makeup
My sister Nora and my friend Huda, both immensley talented hair and makeup stylists voulnteered to do the hair and makeup. They used a lot of neutrals and bronze colors for a natural glow with a pop of pink lipstick (our favorite as a group was Candy Yum Yum by MAC).  Hair was soft and feminine with loose waves, fishtails and side braids. See our inspiration board here.

My Outfit:
Since I didn’t use any floral print in the collection, I thought it would be appropriate to wear a butterfly style floral dress that I bought at H&M several years ago. My sister waved and braided my hair.

my girls!

The show was a blast and truthfully I couldn’t have done it without a great group of models, my sister, and friend Huda. My friends and family graciously volunteered their time and energy to be a part of this project. They were enthusiastic and radiant. My favorite part is that we all had a fun time all throughout this process, they were seriously a riot backstage!
