Cape

It seems as though lately my personal style posts have only featured jackets and blazers. I guess that’s what fall is all about though, outerwear and layering.

This cape was one of those unplanned finds that has proven to be one of the best purchases I think I’ve made. I probably go into Express once every year or so and about five years ago and found this belted cape on the clearance rack at a ridiculously low price, it couldn’t have been more than $30, and it was the last one. I personally don’t think capes will ever go out of style and if they did, I’d still be wearing mine. Because it’s a little more elegant than a regular coat, I almost always keep it classic when I wear this cape. Here, I paired it with a simple black turtleneck and added a pop of color with the orange clutch and lipstick for a weekend lunch date at The Blue Door. Clutches are an absolute must with a cape, don’t even bother trying to carry a shoulder bag or otherwise you’ll look like you just got caught in your coat like a kid on the first day of Kindergarten and can’t get out.  Trust me, I tried.
